ABOUT NK’MIP FORESTRY

Nk’Mip Forestry LLP was formed in 2014 when the Osoyoos Indian Band (OIB) strategically decided to pull together their forest management efforts toward the rising need for sustainable economic development, environmental stewardship, and cultural preservation within their community utilizing forestry.

From 2014–2022, Nk’Mip Forestry shared a strong and successful partnership with Vaagen Fibre Canada. Together, the two companies worked on several projects, from restoration plans to wildfire risk reduction projects and landscape resiliency work. The partnership helped Nk’Mip Forestry provide forestry-specific training for OIB members and improved the overall health of the forest.

Today, as a self-sustained forest management company, Nk’Mip Forestry is a major contributor to the local economy and is committed to applying Okanagan cultural and environmental values in all operations. Fully OIB-owned, the company ensures that licensed forestry areas are harvested sustainably using methods that will preserve the forest and all of its ecological attributes for future generations.

Environmental Stewardship for Generations

All activities are focused on the work today to benefit our environment now, and for generations. The forests are a renewable resource only when we care for it and manage it well.
