Oliver, B.C.: Nk’Mip Forestry has released its Forestry Update Report, sharing an overview of the forestry work carried out across the Osoyoos Indian Band’s (OIB) territory over the past year. The report highlights key projects, partnerships, and operational milestones that support forest health, wildfire resilience, and long-term stewardship of the land.
The report outlines how Nk’Mip Forestry continues to manage forestry operations in a way that reflects OIB values of stewardship, balance, and responsibility for future generations. It brings together work completed across wildfire risk reduction, rehabilitation planting, native seed collection, training, and tenure management, demonstrating how forestry decisions are guided by both traditional knowledge and practical, field-based planning.
“Our work is rooted in caring for the land in a thoughtful and responsible way,” said Dan Macmaster, Registered Professional Forester (RPF), Head of Forestry for the Osoyoos Indian Band. “This report reflects the progress made by our crews and partners and how each project contributes to healthier forests and stronger communities over the long term.”
Throughout the report, Nk’Mip Forestry shares examples of projects including wildfire reduction treatments, restoration and planting initiatives, and the collection of culturally important seeds such as huckleberries, aspen, and birch. The report also highlights investments in workforce development, FireSmart training, and safety, all of which support local capacity and long-term forestry operations.
“We’re excited to share insights about the operational side of forestry, the planning, coordination and execution required to deliver work safely and effectively across the territory which many people don’t see,” said Peter Flett, RPF, Head of Operations, Nk’Mip Forestry. “The report outlines the collective effort of our crews and partners who are committed to getting the work done well.”
In addition to project highlights, the Forestry Update Report underscores the role of collaboration in Nk’Mip Forestry’s work. Partnerships with OIB departments, neighbouring First Nations, forestry licensees, and joint-venture companies continue to support responsible land management, create employment opportunities, and strengthen Indigenous leadership within the forestry sector.
The Forestry Update Report provides a snapshot of how Nk’Mip Forestry is advancing forestry work today while planning for the needs of future generations, reinforcing the Band’s long-term vision for caring for the land.
