Oliver, B.C.: Peter Flett, Head of Operations with Nk’Mip Forestry, has been named Forest Professional of the Year by Forest Professionals British Columbia (FPBC) as part of its 2025 Recognition Program. Flett was formally recognized on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during the FPBC's annual conference in Vancouver.

In his role with Nk’Mip Forestry, Flett supports forestry operations across the Osoyoos Indian Band’s territory, contributing to responsible forest management, wildfire risk reduction, and workforce development. His work reflects a strong focus on safe, well-planned operations and long-term stewardship of the land.

"Receiving this recognition from FPBC is an honour and truly humbling. I see it not as an individual achievement but as the achievement of all the knowledgeable and hard-working people who I am lucky enough to work with,” shares Flett. “I still have so much more to learn and look forward to continuing to develop as a forester, colleague, and friend to those around me."

Dan Macmaster, Forestry Manager for the Osoyoos Indian Band, shared the following in recognition of Flett’s achievement:

“I would like to congratulate Peter on receiving the Forest Professional of the Year Award from Forest Professionals BC. This is a tremendous honour and one that is truly well deserved. I see firsthand the dedication, integrity, and professionalism Peter brings to his work every day, and it is gratifying to see that commitment recognized by the broader forestry community.
Professional foresters such as Peter demonstrate more than strong technical skills; they show leadership, sound judgment, and a deep respect for the land and the people connected to it. Peter exemplifies these qualities through the trust he has built with the Osoyoos Indian Band community, integrating a science-based approach to forest management with community values and priorities.
Peter’s recognition reflects not only his personal achievements but also the values we strive to uphold in our work with the Osoyoos Indian Band: responsible stewardship, long-term thinking, and respect for community and culture. I am proud to work alongside him and congratulate him on this well-earned achievement.”
